Before competing in Fencing, I was competing in Artistic Gymnastics for about 3 years under Tony Smith’s coaching. My highest achievement was that I won 2 gold medals in U-13 national level tournaments in 2001 and was selected to join a national training camp for the high performance program. I also received the Crash and Burn Award, which pretty much speaks for itself, for being the toughest gymnast in the University of Calgary Gymnastics Club.

I started fencing in 2002 by joining Gladiators Summer Camp in Dalhousie Community Centre. Soon, I moved to the competitive program coached by Elya Perritt. My fast progress was attributed to my hard work, dedicated coaches and the full support from my parents. In 2005, I was ranked 1st in U-15 MF by Alberta Fencing Association (AFA). In the same year, I won 2nd and 3rd place in the National Championship for U-15 MF and U-17 MF. Currently (November 2006), I am ranked 1st in U-17 by AFA and qualified for representing Alberta in Canada Winter Games. I am also qualified by the Canadian Fencing Federation (CFF) for the 2006/2007 Cadet National Team and also in the Candian Senior High Performance Program for 2007. Another aspect of competitive fencing that I don’t overlook is the fun of traveling and making friends with other fencers, teammates and foe alike. Since January 2007, I am a member of Epic Fencing Club under the coaching of Leslie Palmai.

In summer, between fencing camps, I enjoy volunteering in the Worm Lab at the University of Calgary where my parents work as Research Associates. Some of my works in DNA Cloning were acknowledged in the recent Developmental Biology Journal. In my spare time, if in the mood, I like to play pieces from Mozart, Scott Joplin or some crazy video game music on the piano. I am currently in grade 11 attending Western Canada High School in the French IB program.
