Mon modèle, mon inspiration
Fanny Létourneau - she loved to perform on water, the frozen kind for figure skating even though her parents had a in-ground pool in the backyard. She stayed away from the pool because her brothers took advantage of her fear of water and would splashed her. However after watching Carolyn Waldo and Michelle Cameron win Olympic gold in 1988 she was hooked and took swimming and synchro lessons at the same time at age eight.
Fanny was a seven-time national champion, the 21-year-old Montrealer is one of Canada's most talented team members and forms a powerful duet with Claire Carver-Dias. A national team member since 1994, she moved to Etobicoke in 1997 and qualified the following year for the Centre of Excellence team. She won the Helen Vanderburg trophy for the best 15-17 age group swimmer in 1996 and was a finalist for outstanding junior female athlete in Canada in 1997.
Autres renseignements me concernant qui pourraient intéresser les médias
Like Fanny Letourneau I was about 8 years of age when I began synchronized swimming. Having completed the basic swimming lessons, and with a bit of fear about being in the deepend I did not want to continue with my swimming lessons. Having registered for synchronized swimming instead of regular swimming lessons it gave me a new breath and outlook at swimming and the chance to discover just how much I truly enjoy swimming and all the magical things you can do in the water. My sister is also a synchronized swimmer, Rachel Kowalski, who is two years younger than myself and was on the Canadian National 13-15 yr team this past summer. My sister and myself get up most every morning at 4:15 am in order to travel from our home in Kitchener to Etobicoke where our practices commence at 6 am until 11 am and we attend Silverthorne High School in the afternoon and are part of a high performance training program with the Olympium Synchronized Swim Club. It is a great deal of time and commitment not only for yourselves, but our family too - its a great sport and worth it - its a great opportunity to share the experience of synchro with my sister, who I am a big fan of.
